The Pygmy Date Palm Brentwood, scientific name Phoenix Roebelenii, is a delightful little palm. The common names of this multi-trunked specimen is the Miniature Date Palm. It is originated from Southeast Asia where it grows in rainforests, clearings or along riverbanks. In wild it is usually single-trunked, and nurseries produce multiples.
The Pygmy tree has become a popular landscaping ornamental in hot climates. The Pygmy Date Palm Brentwood can be grown both indoors and outdoors. It has become very popular for its size, slow growth rate, low maintenance, beauty and hardiness.
Phoenix Roebelenii a miniature tree with a graceful crown of 50 or more very attractive arching feather-type leaves and slender hairy trunk. It bears small insignificant flowers, and females produce small purple to redish-black fruits-dates.
This lovely tree is very adaptable to different growing conditions. It is extremely salt-tolerant and perfect for coastal planting. The small tree is hardy to temperatures around 20 F for a short time with no damage. These species can be grown in full sun or shade. Phoenix Roebelenii can tolerate a wide range of soils, but prefers well drained soil. The graceful tree needs moderate water.
